Antenatal Care from Richford Gate Medical
Practice
At Richford Gate Medical Practice, we believe
in helping you to provide the best possible start in life
for your baby - which starts before you conceive. We are
here to provide care, advice and support; and to continue
to look after you and your children in the years to come.
We believe that it is very important for
you to get to know us (and for us to get to know you)
during your pregnancy. In this way, we are in the best
position to help with medical, social and any other problems
or concerns which may arise.
You will be seen during your pregnancy
by one or more midwives, who may arrange to visit you
at home or ask you to come to the surgery or attend the
hospital. We would like to work closely with them, with
the health visitors at the Primary Care Centre, and, of
course, with you.
Seeing Your Doctor During Pregnancy
Most women will come to see us when they
first discover they are pregnant. You are most likely
to be offered one of two forms of Antenatal care:
Shared Care
When you take part in shared care your
appointments will be split between the GP's surgery and
the hospital Antenatal clinic, where you will see a Midwife
or Doctor. Your hospital appointments will usually be
at approximately 14 weeks, 20 weeks, 36 weeks and 41 weeks.
You will usually be asked to make appointments for full
antenatal checks during pregnancy at the following times:
every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks from 28 to
36 weeks, every week from 36 weeks to delivery. If you
do not have an appointment with the hospital clinic at
any of these times, we would ask you to make an appointment
with your GP.
Centre for Midwifery Practices
Some women living in W12, W3 and W6 will
be eligible for Midwife led care via the Centre for Midwifery
Practices. You will be assigned a main midwife who will
look after you during your pregnancy and should be able
to accompany you through labour and deliver your baby.
This midwife will come to visit you at home for routine
antenatal checks. In addition we would like you to make
appointments with the GP at 24 weeks, 36 weeks and 39
weeks into your pregnancy.
After your Baby is Born
Please feel free to ring the surgery when you get home
from hospital. Your Doctor will be happy to come and visit
you at home, to meet your new baby and to see how you
are getting on.
Postnatal Check-up
About six weeks after you deliver, we would ask you to
come into the surgery for a postnatal check. We can discuss
any problems, any queries about you or your baby, look
at suitable contraception and carry out an examination.
Registering Your
Baby
As soon as you receive an NHS card for your baby (which
will be sent to you automatically after you register your
baby's birth) you should bring it to the surgery to register
your baby with a Doctor. At the Richford Gate Primary
care Centre we provide regular checks on your baby's development,
and a full vaccination service. Clinics are held at the
following times:
Baby and Child checks - Monday afternoon.
Immunisation Clinics - Tuesday Morning
and Thursday afternoon.
